Channels
Channels let your agents communicate through the messaging platforms your team and customers already use. Instead of requiring everyone to log in to the Sprigr Teams portal, you can bring your agents to Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, or embed a web chat widget.
Once a channel is connected, messages from that platform flow into Sprigr Teams automatically. The agent responds in real time, and the full conversation appears in your Inbox.
Where to configure channels
Section titled “Where to configure channels”Channels are configured per agent. Open the agent’s settings page and find the Channels section. Each channel appears as a card you can expand, configure, and toggle on or off. Only an organisation owner or admin can enable a channel or change its credentials.
Setting up channels
Section titled “Setting up channels”Each channel type has its own setup process. Select the channel you want to configure below.
WebChat
Section titled “WebChat”WebChat is the built-in chat surface. It is always available inside the Sprigr Teams portal, so anyone with portal access can chat with the agent from the Chat page without any setup.
-
Open the agent’s channel settings
Go to the agent’s settings page and find the Channels section. Expand the WebChat card.
-
Enable WebChat (optional)
WebChat works through the portal without being enabled. Toggle it on only if you want to record it explicitly in the agent’s channel configuration for programmatic access.
Telegram
Section titled “Telegram”Connect an agent to a Telegram bot so users can message it directly, or add it to a group.
-
Create a bot with BotFather
Open Telegram and search for @BotFather. Send
/newbotand follow the prompts to name your bot. BotFather gives you a bot token and a bot username — keep both. -
Enter the details in Sprigr Teams
In the agent’s channel settings, expand the Telegram card. Enter the Bot Username (for example
@my_bot) and paste the Bot Token from BotFather. -
Save and let the webhook register
When you save the bot token, Sprigr Teams registers the webhook with Telegram for you. You will see a confirmation that the webhook was registered. There is no webhook URL to copy or paste.
-
Enable the channel
Toggle the Telegram card on.
-
Test it
In Telegram, search for your bot by its username, start a conversation, and send a message. The agent should respond within a few seconds.
WhatsApp runs through a shared Sprigr WhatsApp number at the platform level, so there is no WhatsApp Business API setup, no access token, and no phone number ID to manage. It is only available on companion agents.
-
Verify your phone number
Open your Profile in the portal and verify your phone number by SMS or WhatsApp. WhatsApp uses your verified number to identify you and route your messages.
-
Enable WhatsApp on your companion agent
In the agent’s channel settings, expand the WhatsApp card. Once your phone is verified, toggle it on.
-
Save the Sprigr bot number
The card shows the Sprigr WhatsApp bot number. Save it as a contact on your phone.
-
Connect to an agent
Message the Sprigr bot number and send
/agent <name>to connect to a specific agent (for example/agent support-bot). All messages are then routed to that agent. -
Switch agents anytime
Send
/agent <name>again at any point to switch which agent you are talking to.
Interactive prompts and forms
Section titled “Interactive prompts and forms”When an agent needs you to choose something on WhatsApp, it does not make you type the answer out. It picks the richest control WhatsApp supports for the question:
- Reply buttons for a short list of options (up to three).
- A list menu when there are more options than buttons allow.
- A native form for anything richer — a multi-question ask, choosing several options at once, or answering in your own words. You tap a button to open the form, fill it in, and submit it in one pass.
You tap to answer rather than typing, and the agent picks up where it left off once you submit. See Decisions and approvals for how these prompts work across every channel.
Connect an agent to Slack so your team can interact with it in channels or direct messages. The quickest path is the one-click OAuth flow.
-
Open the Slack card
In the agent’s channel settings, expand the Slack card.
-
Add to Slack
Click Add to Slack. This starts the OAuth flow and, once you authorise it in your workspace, auto-configures the bot token, app ID, and webhook URL for you.
-
Configure manually (alternative)
If you prefer to set it up by hand, enter the Slack App ID, the Bot Token (
xoxb-...), and the Signing Secret from your Slack app’s credentials, then copy the webhook URL shown on the card into your Slack app’s Event Subscriptions. Set the Interactivity request URL to the same base with/webhook/slack-interact/in place of/webhook/slack/. -
Enable the channel
Toggle the Slack card on.
-
Test it
In Slack, send a direct message to the bot or mention it in a channel it has been added to. The agent should respond within a few seconds.
Managing channels
Section titled “Managing channels”Once configured, you can manage all channels from the agent’s settings page:
- Enable or disable a channel with its toggle, without removing its configuration.
- Update credentials if tokens or secrets change. Secrets are encrypted and stored securely; enter a new value to replace the old one.
All messages from every channel flow into the same Inbox, so you have a unified view regardless of where the conversation started.
What each channel supports
Section titled “What each channel supports”Text works on every channel. Beyond that, the richer channels support attachments and interactive prompts:
- Telegram — text, photos, documents, and interactive decision buttons (inline keyboards). Works in direct messages and groups.
- WhatsApp — text, images, documents, audio, and video, plus interactive reply buttons, list menus, and native forms for structured questions. Works in direct messages and groups.
- Slack — text and rich Block Kit messages, including buttons and mentions, with replies threaded on the original message.
- WebChat — text, file attachments, and inline artifacts such as rendered documents, tables, and HTML panels (see Chat).
Multi-channel agents
Section titled “Multi-channel agents”A single agent can be connected to multiple channels at the same time. For example, your customer support agent could be available in WebChat inside the portal, in Slack for internal staff, and on Telegram for customers, all at once.
The agent keeps separate conversation threads per channel and per user, so context does not bleed between unrelated conversations.
Next steps
